Preschool Palace

This is definitely one of my most favorite special events our preschool puts on.  It is so much fun, and at the same time, it does so much good for the St. Judes foundation.  The children get their parents to pledge money for them to ride in the Trike-a-thon.  Some of them also get grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors anybody they want! to pledge also. They can either do a flat amount or they can pledge a certain amount per lap.  It is much easier to just do flat amounts!!  Anyway, we also have a best decorated bike/trike/scooter contest.  Some of these kids go all out on this contest!!  Helium balloons are a big favorite!  The kids like to ride and watch their balloon trailing along behind them.

Who doesn’t love a parade???  Parades are so much to watch!  Kids love them, grown ups love them, old people love them, everybody does except for those few unlucky souls who were unaware there was parade scheduled to occur at the precise time that they really really need to drive down that particular street that is closed for the parade!  Now, what is better than watching a parade?  How about marching IN the parade?!?  Then what if we add noisemakers, big signs declaring our class is the best, and balloons?  Our preschool has fun stuff like this all the time.  the parents usually turn out in droves for these events, I guess they have pretty flexible schedules!  Then again, what good is a parade if there is nobody there to watch it???

Sponge painting is definitely not a new art concept in the preschool world.  Everybody has sponge painted.  But, have you sponge painted with your feet?  No, I am not talking about those incredibly talented people who can draw as well with their toes as they can with their hands.  How about sponge painting on the grand scale using those large muscles?  We wrapped plastic sacks around their feet (with shoes on) and secured them at the ankle with rubber bands.  Then we added kitchen sponges to the bottom of their feet with rubber bands.  The paint was in shallow trays which was easy for them to step in and out of.  Basically, that was it – they had a blast walking along the paper with their heads turned around to see their footprints.  Too cute!
